His half-sister, Mrs. H. A. Weaver, of Mt. Vernon, was here to attend his funeral. M. M. Lackey, now of Hansford, was also here. (S. S. Gazette, Fri., June 10, 1910) Matt Ashcroft Camp, U. C. V. - In Memorial - At his home, near this city, on the 7th day of June, 1910, Comrade Sid Lackey laid down his armor and answered to the last roll call on earth. He was a brave soldier in Co. I 9th Texas Cavalry, Ross’ Brigade. He was born in Missouri in 1842. At an early age his mother moved to Texas where she married Cam (sic) English, a pioneer of this state who was possessed of the sturdy qualities of the frontier men of that day and time, and under these influences Comrade Lackey was reared and developed into manhood.
