L., MRS. - Aged 35, died at her home Wednesday. She lived on the Yantis road near the Cross Roads. Burial was made in the Liberty cemetery. Her husband, G. L. (Doc) Smith, was arrested for the death of his wife. He had given her strychnine. (Gazette, Fri., May 7, 1915) Cumby Rustler reported - The attending physician was of the opinion that she died from poison. Reports have been filed very damaging to the husband. One is that when informed by Constable Bill Baylis that he was wanted by the officials at the graveyard to exhume the body of his wife, he cut his throat, also tried to butt his brains out against a fence post, fracturing his skull. It is also rumored and freely talked that Mr. Smith carried $4000. insurance on his wife. Sheriff Butler informed the Rustler her stomach had been sent to Dallas to be analyzed. (S.S. Gazette)
