W. Sparks, known as "Uncle Tuck Sparks" of Saltillo, died Nov. 7, 1912, of Bright’s disease. Mr. Sparks was one of Hopkins County oldest and most respected citizens. He was one of the leading spirits of the Hopkins County Old Settlers’ Association, and was at the time of his death the president of the organization. He served in the civil war in Ross’ Brigade and was a gallant soldier. In 1869, he married Miss Fannie Turner. He was a teacher, later a merchant in Como, and then raised stock in Saltillo. Born in Alabama, April 2, 1842, and came to Texas with his parents in 1849. Burial at Cypress cemetery in Franklin County, Texas.
