All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** From the files of June Tuck STRICKLAND, LUKE - Cumby, Hopkins Co., Texas - Jan. 20, 1925 - Luke Strickland died at his residence in this place Jan. 17th after an illness of over a year. Mr. Strickland was born in Barry County, Missouri, Aug. 7, 1855, coming to Texas and locating near Cumby in the early 1970's He was married and settled at old Black Jack Grove in 1876, which had been his home since. For more than 25 years he was a ginner here, and had an extensive acquaintance over Texas and Southern Oklahoma. He is survived by one son, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at his residence Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. M. Cowling of Lewisville, Texas. Interment was in Cumby cemetery. ( Dallas Morning News, Jan. 21, 1925)
