Mr, Waggoner was among the first settlers of Hopkins County. He had been in the county for sixty - five years or more. He was born in Missouri and came to Texas as a boy and died at the advanced age of 78 years. He served in the Confederate army as a volunteer, private soldier, going out from Hopkins County and fought till the end. He was united with the Baptist church. He leaves a wife and eleven children, all present at the funeral. He was buried in the Cumby cemetery. His two sons by his first marriage, one from Oklahoma and the other from West Texas came to see their father laid by the side of their mother.
