Russell was born in Cooper County, Missouri, August 28 1842, and departed this life February 12, 1925, at the age of 82, after four weeks of suffering, due to dropsy.\ January 1, 1866 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Matilda Lathrope, who passed away more than two years ago. To this union twelve children were born, four having died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Lydia Cooper of Santa Paula, California, Mrs. Mary Wells of Lufkin, Texas , Dr. Alice Willis of Hutchinson; C. H. Russell of Tyrone, Oklahoma; H. L. Russell of Liberal; Mrs. Nellie Batis of Dalhart, Texas. Mr. Russell is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Berry of Galena, Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends.\ Mr. Russell passed away at the home of his son, Herschel Russell, who for the past eighteen years has lived six miles east of Liberal. He had been a member of the Christian Church for forty-seven years. Funeral services were conducted at his son's home east of the city Friday afternoon by Rev. Clyde Sherman and interment was made in the Liberal Cemetery.\ \ The daughter Nettie was not mentioned in the obituary, but she is in her sister Lula's in 1942. So her name must have been missed. It also say that George was born in Cooper Co., MO. I have birth records for his son Hershel, that say he was born in Cole Co., MO (1885). Mrs. Russell with her husband and family has lived six miles east of Liberal since 1906, where she has made many friends.\ All who knew her loved her, for her bright and cheerful life. She was member of the Christian church for forty years, living true and faithful to her Savior till He called her to the Higher Life.\ She leaves to mourn hers loss: her devoted and sorrowing husband, eight children as follows: Mrs. Lydia Cooper, Santa Paula, California; Mrs., Mary Wells, Lufkin, Texas; Mrs. Alice Willis, Hutchinson, Kansas; Charles Russell, Tyrone, Oklahoma; Nellie Russell, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Luella Wallace, Liberal; Herschel Russell, Liberal; Mrs. Nettie Bates, Dalhart, Texas.
