McKee It seems but a day since I was a boy, Enjoying my childish fun. But today I see Old Father Time Marking up Number Seventy-One. He did not say just how many more, For this he would not reveal He, you see, is a funny old man In that he keeps something concealed. Now as I look back through life's mystic book, I find some things amiss. But I hope the conductor who takes my fare Will overlook all this. Life to us all is like a great book filled with mysteries Both great and small And only the Infinite in the world to come Can read and know them all. Some men look to the book of life For wealth and worldly fame, While other men find in the same old book Very like of this earth's gain.... (August 22, 1952, The Celeste Courier)
