Fifteen Hunt County 4-H Club Members Receive Awards Paul Mathews made the presentation of awards to the winners. A program, "Helping Them to Help Themselves" was presented by Hub Brewer, Mrs. C. M. Houser, Clyde Heflin, Mrs. Ruth Thompson, Mrs. George Hackney, Jr., Mrs. Annie Mae Hatchell, and Steve Wheeless. Barbara Gail Akers was mistress of ceremonies for the evening which was arranged by Bob Berry. Donna Childress of the Celeste Club led the sing song. 4-H Club News Frances Brown reported in the 4-H Club News in 1955 that on May 10, she met with five of the food demonstrators of the Celeste 4-H Club. The five included Beverly Anne Glasscock, Donna Childress, Jeanette Gibson, Charlsey Childress, and Joann Gibson. Also present was their adult leaders, Mrs. J. W. Glasscock. 4-Hers Attend Training Class Twenty Hunt Countians enjoyed a recreation training meeting at the Greenville City Park Tuesday afternoon under the leadership of the Home Demonstration Agent Frances Brown. Attending from Celeste were Randy Weatherley, Sherry Duncan, Donna Childress, Georgann Hackney, Mary Rodriguez, and Joan Shields. Teddy Joe Saye Head Of New Celeste Club Teddy Joe Saye was elected president of the new Celeste Community 4-H Club which was organized at a meeting last night at the Celeste School. The club is the first of its kind in the county and is for high school boys and girls. The program will be designed to fit into the community needs. Other officers named for thee club include Archie Lower, vice-president; Georgann Hackney, secretary-treasurer; Marie Carter, council delegate; Joan Shields, reporter; and Donna Childress and Barbara Lipsey, recreation leaders. The group voted to meet every second Monday of the month at 7:30 PM. Places of the meetings may vary, but will probably at the school. A film, "The Town That Came Back," was shown at the meeting, which was attend by the eighteen charter members of the club. (1955-1956) 4-H Rally Day Program Attended By More Than One-Hundred Club Members The group met at City Park. Texas Highway Patrolman W. C. Rowden, safety office for the Dallas District, spoke to the group on citizenship. After his presentation, the group then divided for afternoon activities including crafts, demonstration, and recreation. Directing the crafts were Barbara Williams, Brenda Davenport, Richard Barker, and Nancy White. Demonstrations were given by Linda Johnson, Wilson White, John Berry, and Millye Smith On the recreation committee were Lana Beth Houser, Joan Shields, Georgann Hackney, Hubert Lytle, Joe Bill Spradling, and Donna Childress. The first night party to be held at the Rally was conducted under the chairmanship of Lana Beth Houser and Joan Shields. Assisting from Celeste were Donna Childress, Georgann Hackney, Randy Weatherley, Mary Rodriguez, and Sherry Duncan. Others registering for the day were Randy Weatherley, Doug Milton, Martha Hackney, Lorene Morrow, Sue Sumrow, Barbara Newman, Mike Weatherley, DeLois Jackson, Jeanette Gibson, Joyce Malone, Carol Ross, Carole Saye, Eddie Sue Gibson, pat Roach, Sarah Roach Linda Jones, Mickie Rodriguez, Tommie Rodriguez, Gerald Hunter, John Mike Heflin, Jerry Standlee, Sydne Roach, and Arline Farmer. Bobby Ross and Jerry Hunter of Celeste FFA and Ronnie Shields were also registered. Praises Farmers As Chosen People J. W. Rollins, dean of men at ET, told the young people, "You're the best in the world." . . .Quit apologizing for being farmers, you're the Lord's chosen people." Receiving certificates or pins were Donna Childress, Sherry Duncan, Jeanette Gibson, Martha Hackney, Jerry Leinart from Bland, Sylvia Raper, and Sue Sumrow. Also Georgann Hackney and Judy Cannon. Guests were Albert Granberry, Bill Eason, and Billy Julian. The County Agent Says The contest at Arlington State College, Arlington, Texas, saw Georgann Hackney give a vegetable demonstration and Teddy Joe Saye entered the Tractor Operators Contest. The Shrub Identification Team composed of Carol Ross, Mary Rodriguez, Frances Taylor, and Donna Childress won third place. Medford Sumrow of Bland was a member for the 4-H Swine Club. They were showing their pig litters and the essay contest ended on April 30th with the topic, "Why I Chose a Pig Demonstration." Twenty Celeste Girls Attend 4-H Camp At Bonham Park Twenty members of the Celeste girls 4-H Club attended a two-day camp at the Bonham State Park. They left Tuesday, June 28, 1956, and returned home the next afternoon. Special activities of the camp included planned recreation, swimming, and a campfire stew. Committee members who planned the camp were Joan Shields, Carol Ross, Mary Rodriguez, Sherry Duncan, and Donna Childress. Members who attended with the committee were Martha Hackney, Georgann Hackney, Mickie Rodriguez, Tommie Rodriguez, Joyce Malone, Frances Taylor, Sarah Roach, Arline Farmer, Linda Sue Jones, Sherry Saye, Carole Saye, Barbara Lipsey, Eddie Sue Gibson, Sue Sumrow, and Pat Roach. Adult leaders and parents who accompanied the group were Mrs. Hubert Shields, Mrs. Elmo Duncan, Mrs. Dick Saye, Mrs. Dora Taylor, Mrs. Ellis Sumrow, Mrs. Tilson Gibson, and Mrs. Theda Roach.
