Smith's fourteen points paced Campbell's Indians to an easy, 38 to 16 win over Lone Oak and Higdon's twenty-two points led Quinlan Tigers to a lopsided 43 to 9 victory over hapless Celeste. In another game two once-defeated teams, Merit and Wolfe City, tangled with Merit winning the decision by a 32 to 21 margin. CAMPBELL, QUINLAN BEST Campbell and Quinlan seem the best bets to come through to the finals, unless they meet before the final eliminations are staged Saturday, February 22nd. CAMPBELL HOT. Campbell was hot from the start, and hustled to a 18-6 halftime lead, then coasted to victory. Carson Belew rivaled Smith for high scorer during the first half, but was held more closely in the second half and scored ten points. The Quinlan-Celeste scrape started slowly, and no scoring was done in the first four and one-half minutes. Then Williams, of Quinlan, broke the ice and started the Tigers on their scoring rampage. By halftime, they had gotten only twelve points, but that was still ten better than Celeste' Blue Devils could do. The Celeste quint failed to register a single point until more than halfway through the second quarter. Halftime score was 12-2. Then in the third quarter Higdon score most of his points and turned the contest into a rout. McMichael led Celeste with three points. High scorer for Lone Oak in the Campbell game was in a three-way tie, with Craig, Haines, and Weatherford scoring four points each. Merit took an early lead and held it all the way to defeat Wolfe City 32 to 21 with Lewis of Merit racking up fifteen points to lead the scorers. High scorer for Wolfe City was Crowell with eleven. Campbell line-up was Belew, H. Foote, Smith, Earle, and Vaughn. For Lone Oak were Craig, Head, Haines, Dooley, Weatherford, and Titus. Suited out for Merit were Ketron, MORTON, Lewis, J. Sumrow, R. Sumrow, and Fugitt. Vallarel, Craig, Crowell, Little Stephens, Bagwell, and Gaskell were the Wolves of Wolfe City. Quinlan players were Higdon, Williams, Harris, Pickard, Wade, Beheler, and Decker. The Blue Devils were Ross, Patterson, McMichael, Land, Jackson, McGee, and McMichael. (February 14, 1947, GMH) Question: the paper said Quinlan Tigers--aren't they Panthers?
