All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Looking Back--School Closed At Celeste School Closed at Celeste Large Number of Graduates and Splendid Address by Senator Barrett From Saturday's Daily--Thursday the public school was closed at Celeste. This session just closed is one of the most successful in the history of the public school there. Professor B. H. Fillers has been principal. He with a splendid corps of teachers has done splendid work. Professor J. A. Thomas delivered the diplomas in his usual elegant way. The features o the close was the graduating class, the commencement sermon last Sunday by Dr. G. C. Rankin, and the address yesterday morning at 10:00 AM by Senator A. P. Barrett of Bonham. Last night a musical program was rendered and tonight a banquet will close the series of entertainment's. The graduates are: Cassie Aldredge, Tom Carter, Ella Hudson, Marie Hudson, Eula McGuire, Eura Cloar, Louise England, Clarence Hoard, Marvin McGuire, Olin Norris, and Spaulding Williams. The class flower, Cape Jasmine; class color, pea green and white; class motto: Finis opus coronat. The subject of Senator Barrett was "The Mission of the Public School," which was regarded as one of the most brilliant addresses ever heard in Celeste. The school board has elected the following teachers for another years: Professor Parks, principal; Miss Eula Yeager, Miss Ava Ewing, Miss Ella Clark (?), and Mrs. B. M. Matthews. (May 30, 1908)
