The first homecoming three years ago attracted a thousand people and it is expected there will be many more this year. Visitors are invited to visit the church of their choice prior to the noon meal to be served at the school. Families are expected to bring a basket lunch. The tableware, drinks, and bread will be furnished. Any local people who are willing to contribute $1.00 to help pay expenses are asked to see Mrs. Carl Lacy, Charles, Dupre, or leave it at the First National Bank in Celeste. Committees are mailing 750 post cards to people expected to attend. Saturday night before the reunion date there will be individual class reunions of Celeste school ex-students in the National Guard Armory in Greenville. It should be pointed out that all local resident are also cordially invited to attend and to participate. Funds for financing the homecoming have begun to come in fairly well. Those who wish to contribute toward the expenses may leave a $1.00 donated at the Celeste Post Office or at the First National Bank. Postal cards are being mailed to out of town people whose addresses are known. There are hundred whose addresses cannot be located, so anyone knowing the address of a former resident or student, please leave it at the post office with Theda Lacy. (March 31, 1958) Plans for the Celeste Homecoming are taking shape nicely with the committees working for a bigger and better homecoming than ever this year. Several weeks ago we published an article about homecoming, stating the need for funds to help finance the affair and several have sent in contributions. However, more money will be needed. Each person was asked to give $1.00. If you haven’t donated anything and wish to do so, contact Mrs. Carl Lacy. A total of 750 cards have been mailed to former residents to date and an additional 750 will be mailed later. (July 18, 1958) A called meeting for planning committees for the Celeste Homecoming and anyone else interested in helping is scheduled for August 19, 1958 at 8:00 PM in the school library. If you are a committeeman, please be present. Although plans are progressing nicely, there is much to be done. At least 1,500 people are expected to attend this year’s homecoming, a larger number than attended the last one three years ago. (August 8, 1958) China plates bearing pictures of the old Celeste school building have been ordered and will be sold to anyone desiring one. Proceeds from the sales will be put in the homecoming fund. This will help pay various expenses arising at this time. These are beautiful plates and if you want one as a keepsake, please contact Miss Mary Eastwood or Mrs. Carl Lacy. (August 8, 1958) Committees planning for the reunion of all ex-students of Celeste High School have mailed hundreds of cards to people practically everywhere inviting them to come. The first reunion three years ago was such a success; it was decided to have another this year. Hundreds from far away and locally attended and even more are expected this year. The date is Sunday, August 31, 1958. Families are requested to bring a picnic lunch. Drinks, bread, and tableware will be furnished. Registration will begin at 9:00 AM at the high school. Each visitor may go to the church of his choice for the morning worship and return to the school for lunch. A short, informal program has been arranged for the afternoon session at the school. Class Reunions Saturday Night On Saturday night, August 30, 1958, at 8:00 PM, ex-students will hold class reunions in the National Guard Armory in Greenville. Plan now to attend the reunions, both Saturday and Sunday. (August 15, 1958) Attend the Celeste Ex-Students Homecoming, August 31 (headline, August, 22, 1958) The August 15, 1958 article was repeated in the August 22, 1958 paper. At least 1,500 ex-students, former residents, and Celeste residents were present last weekend for this town’s second homecoming. The first homecoming was three years ago and there would be another three years from now in 1961. Visitors attended churches of their choice on Sunday morning, gathering at the school for a noonday picnic lunch. During the afternoon program, five guests were especially honored. They were Mrs. Iris Norris of Celeste and Mrs. Lucy Patterson of Dallas, both members of the 1901 class of Celeste High School; E. H. Watson, superintendent of the Celeste School from 1918 to 1926; G. W. Tillerson, the present superintendent, and Frank Aven of Red Bluff, California, who came he longest distance to attend the homecoming. Mrs. Patterson taught in the school here for sixteen years and Mrs. Norris taught here for twenty-three years. Hubert Shields was master of ceremonies for Sunday’s program. Albert Granberry was general chairman and Mrs. Carl Lacy was assistant general chairman for the homecoming. Several very competent committees helped to make this year’s homecoming an even better one than three years ago assisted them. Former students assembled at the Greenville National Guard Armory on Saturday night for class reunions. (September 5, 1958)
