The first homecoming was three years ago and there will be another in three years from now in 1961. Visitors attended churches of their choice on Sunday morning, gathering at the school for a noon day picnic lunch. During the afternoon program five guests were especially honored. They were Mrs. Iris Norris of Celeste and Mrs. Lucy Patterson of Dallas, both members of the 1901 class of Celeste High School; E. H. Watson, superintendent of the Celeste School from 1918 to 1926; G. W. Tillerson, the present superintendent; and Frank Aven of Red Bluff, California, who came the longest distance to attend the homecoming. Mrs. Patterson taught in the school here for sixteen years and Mrs. Norris taught twenty-three years. Hubert Shields was master of ceremonies for Sunday's program. Albert Granberry was general chairman and Mrs. Carl Lacy was assistant general chairman for the homecoming. They were assisted by several very competent committees that helped to make this year's homecoming an even better one than the one three years ago. Former students assembled at Greenville National Guard Armory on Saturday night for class reunions. (September 5, 1958, The Celeste Courier)
