A very enjoyable time was had by all. Many old friendships were renewed. In May of 1961, the Calhoun Reunion disbanded and a new organization was formed combining the Calhoun College ex’s, Kingston ex’s, and the Kingston community, or anyone that ever lived in Kingston. Registration began at 9:30 AM and nametags were pinned on each one, as many would not be recognized otherwise. Many enjoyed hiding their names and having an old friend guess who they were. Some had not seen each other in thirty-five years or more. The morning was spent in registering and visiting. At the noon hour the REV. C. B. GARRETT, pastor of the Kingston Methodist Church, gave the invocation now. Everyone enjoyed a nice lunch, spread picnic style. Mrs. Ethel Owens was in charge of this, assisted by many others. In the afternoon, a short program was enjoyed. Nelson Shankle, a former teacher, led the group in songs, assisted by his wife. C. B. Garrett gave a short devotional and Ross Cole led in prayer. Boxes of candy were presented to the following: Mrs. J. S. Stokes who was the oldest Calhoun student present; Ross Cole, the oldest Kingston student present; Cora Kirkpatrick, the one traveling the greatest distance to be present. She came from Ventura, California. The former teachers of Kingston were recognized and they in turn recognized their pupils. One of the oldest citizens of the community was present, Mrs. J. T. Abernathy, now of Garland. Four of her daughters were present also. During the business session of the afternoon, it was moved to have the reunion on Sunday in June of 1963 and the motion carried.
