The High School football team will open the season on Friday with a game with the Celeste team, arrangements having been made with the High team of that city, to be played here. Football patrons all know the kind of football Celeste puts out, and Coach Lewis says his bunch of huskies are counting strong to win. Celeste has defeated Cooper 18 to 0, and Leonard 29 to 0, showing all they have a football squad worth taking notice of. High School has not played any regular games yet, but Captain Brown has his men well under control and has succeeded in giving the scrubs a severe trouncing yesterday afternoon. The High School squad, with a few exceptions, has its old weight and fighting spirit and the town should turn out to see them defeat Celeste. Season tickets have been issued and are on sale by the football boys. Yell Master Sanders has been making the trees shiver with vibration lately, and says that the rooters are strong for the contest. Season tickets are selling fast. Gate admission is thirty cents. Game called at 4:15 on the Younger Lot, East Lee Street. (October 2, 1918, The Greenville Morning Herald) ______ Was Coach Lewis the Celeste coach? Was this about the time Foy Thomas played?
