B. Weatherley planned to work hard this week on his defense and a well-rounded offense for the Blue Devils' home opener Friday night against their cross-country rivals, the Wolfe City Wolves. Quarterback Tommy Arey helped the Blue Devils to their opening game win at Emory by heaving four touchdown passes, one in each quarter. Final score was 25 - 7. Arey threw twice to Johnny Morton and twice to Allen Biggs for the touchdowns. Arey crashed over for the lone extra point. Emory fullback Bryant Lanham raced twenty-five yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Earl Hill converted. The Blue Devils spoiled Emory's first game in their new Acorn Bowl. The seats, as well as a new fence, were donated and constructed by the Celeste Lions Club. A large crowd for the game tonight is almost assured as Wolfe City, coached by Tommy McCormack, tried to avenge the 15 - 6 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Blue Devils last season. Nevertheless, Celeste, coached by T. B. Weatherley, will be favored t win a close game, mainly on the terrific passing of Quarterback Tommy Arey. Wolfe City leans to possibly superior line play and the running of fullback Gene Monroe.
