Dupre bought the girls and boys basketball teams cold drinks after the game with Quinlan. (January 17, 1958) About eighty people attended the annual Celeste basketball banquet on Thursday night, March 6, in the high school cafeteria. After the dance in the gymnasium, the decorations were torn down by members of the teams and saved for souvenirs. (March 14, 1958) District 60-B tennis at Commerce had these winners: Charles Tillerson placed first in the senior boys’ division; Carole Ann Saye and Sarah Roach won first in junior girls’ doubles division; and Frances Taylor placed second in senior girls’ division. Other Celeste tennis players were Jerry Hunter, Mickey Pierson, Jackie Arnwine, Donnie Evans, Gerald Eldridge, Sue Sumrow, Phyllis Perkins, and Joan Shields. (April 11, 1958) Commerce—The junior Texas UIL softball meet at Commerce Tuesday was won by the Celeste girls and the Royse City boys. In the girls’ division, Royse City placed second and Caddo Mills came in third. Celeste took second place honors in the boys’ class while the Campbell boys placed its way to third place. Seven area schools participated in the meet. They were Royse City, Boles Home, Quinlan, Caddo Mills, Celeste, Lone Oak, and Campbell. (May 16, 1958) The Celeste junior boys were Donnie Evans, Jackie Arnwine, Jimmy Lowe, Jimmy Patterson, Ben Rayburn, Jackie Bolton, Gerald Eldridge, and Odell Thacker. Members the Celeste junior high girls team were Sarah Roach, Carole Ann Saye, Charlsey Childress, Eddie Sue Gibson, Sue Cato, Joann Gibson, Sue Sumrow, Rosemary Burns, Patricia Capehart, Sylvia Raper, Donna Glasscock, and Julia Cannon. The Celeste senior girls won first. Those who participated were Phyllis Perkins, Frances Taylor, Frankie Milton, Thelma Burns, Donna Childress, Carrie Nell Rayburn, Sherry Saye, Barbara Lipsey, Carol Ross, Georgann Hackney, and Marie Carter. We hope that Frances Taylor’s arm is better. She was hit on the arm with a bat at Commerce and her arm was very badly bruised. The Celeste senior boys also took first place honors. Those on the team were Donnie Duncan, Paul Dan Jones, Charles Tillerson, Dwain Lamm, Duard Hill, Jerry Hunter, C. L. Smith, Anthony Mulkey, Archie Lower, Garvin Pearce, Larry Rowell, and Richard Lyday. (May 16, 1958)
