M. (Monkey) Meeks at the Hunt County Fair today (Thursday). Every Wesley student is expected to be on the fair grounds Thursday evening for this, the initial game of the Wesley football season, where he will become familiar with the talent and the ability of his own team, the Panthers, and where he will absorb a strong feeling of loyalty toward the team. While Coach Ward will not have his team picked until shortly before the encounter, Meeks has been busy assembling his men and is assured of a powerful grid machine when the whistle, announcing the beginning of the game, is blown. Some of those who will line up with Captain Meeks against the Panther eleven are John Brooks of Greenville, whose quickness of mind proved valuable to high school and Wesley College; Johnnie Doyle, of Celeste, lively half-back; Curtis Meeks, 210 pound end, brother of "Monkey," who is expected to prove a true football brother of the captain; Quinn Sessions, husky end, who never failed to do his part in his career as a player on the junior college football squad; Hubert Goodman, an ex-Panther that fought many hard fights while on the Wesley team; "Monkey" Meeks, known by all students on the Wesley campus last year for his speed and alertness of mind. (September 15, 1927, The Wesley Pilot) * S. M. are initials for Stephen Munson. ** I believe my Uncle Jimmy Roach said that Johnnie Doyle was a fine athlete. I believe Uncle Jimmy said that there were other Doyle brothers. Wonder what happened to Coach Meeks and Johnnie Doyle?
