All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Hunt County Men Inducted into Army Bobby Lee Burns, RR 2, Celeste, is one of eleven young men inducted into the US Army on November 7, 1961, through Texas Local Board No. 72, Greenville and forwarded to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas for basic training. Seven men will be inducted in December and thirty-five will go for physical examinations. (November 24, 1961, The Celeste Courier) Carroll Cummings on Okinawa With Missile Battalion Army PFC. Carroll J. Cummings, 23, whose wife, Julia, lives in Denison, recently arrived on Okinawa with other personnel on the Missile Battalion, 3rd Artillery under Operation OVUREP, the Army's Overseas Unit replacement Program. Cummings organization, a Hawk missile unit, was previously stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. A radio operator in the battalion's Battery D, Cummings entered the US Army in December of 1960 and received basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Cummings, live at RR 2, Celeste. (November 24, 1961)
