These men meet annually to renew ties and reminiscence about their experiences. They were members of Company B, 314th Supply Train of the 89th Division. It was the first motorized division. Byrd had trained at San Antonio, but applied for a truck-driving job and was transferred to this division. This company was the first motorized outfit to go to the front in France. It was in the Saint Mihiel Sector and battle. Byrd was in the war about a year, but remained "over there" in the Army of Occupation following the Armistice. Briefly, those are the facts mentioned when Mrs. Lewis questioned Mr. Glasscoe for generally those men do not discuss their war days too easily. No doubt it is natural for these ex-soldiers to cover all phrases of their experiences when they gather. Three men were present this year. (August 25, 1961)
