Ross, do hereby made application to the Commissioners of Pensions for a pension, to be granted me under the Act passed by the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Texas, and approved April 7, A.D. 1913, on the following grounds. I am the widow of Robert A. Ross, deceased, who depart this life on the 12 day of July AD 1925 in the county of Hunt in the State of Texas, I have not married since the death of my said husband, and I do solemnly swear that I was never divorced from my said husband, and that I never voluntarily abandoned him during his life, but remained his true, faithful and lawful wife up to the date of his death. I was married to him on the 8 day of Jan. A. D. 1885, in the County of Hunt, in the State of Texas. My husband the said R. A. Ross enlisted and served in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States of the United States and that he did not desert the Confederate Service. I have been a reside of the State of Texas since prior to January 1, A. D. 1900, and have been continuously a citizen of the State of Texas. I do further state that I do not receive from any source whatever money or other means of support amounting in value to the sum of $300.00 per annum, nor do I own in my own right, nor does anyone hold in trust for my benefit or use, estate or property, either real, personal or mixed, either in fee or for life, of the value of one thousand dollars exclusive of the home of the value of not over $3000.00; nor do I receive aid or pension from any other State, of from the United States, or from any other source, and I do further state that the answer given to the following questions are true: 1. What is your age? 66 years old 2. Where were you born? 8th day of April A. D. 1959 *(1859 - should be) 3. How long have you resided in the State of Texas? 42 years 4. How long have you resided in the county of your present residence? And what is your post office address? 42 year. Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas 5. Did your husband draw a pension? If so, give his file number... No. 6. What was your husband's full name? Robert Andrew Ross 7. What was his date of death? July the 12, A. D. 1925, 8. In what State was your husband's command originally organized? Ala. 9. How long did your husband serve? If know to you give the date of enlistment and discharge. Oct. 13, 1861, May the 6th 1865 10. What was the name or letter of the company, or number of the battalion, regiment or battery of artillery in which your husband served? If he was transferred from one branch of service to another, give time of transfer, description of command and time of service. Company "C" 21st Alabama Regiment. On the 9th day of August A. D. 1863 he was transferred to Company "C" Second Regiment of Engineers, CSA served April the 9th 1865 and was captured at Blakely and was imprisoned at Ship Island. Paroled May 6th, 1865. 11. Name branch of service in which your husband served, whether infantry, artillery or navy, of if commissioned as an officer by the President, his rank and line of duty, of if detailed for special service, under the law of conscription, the nature of such service, and the time of service........ Infantry 12. Have you transferred to others any property of any kind for the purpose of becoming a beneficiary under this law? No (Wherefore your petitioner prays that her application for a pension may be approved and such other proceedings be had in the premises as are required by law. Graves, who are personally known to me to be creditable citizens, who, being by me duly sworn, on oath state that they personally know that Mrs. Hattie B. Ross, applicant for a pension as the widow of R. A. Ross deceased, is in truth and fact the widow of R. A. Graves who are personally known to me to be creditable citizens, who, being by me duly sworn, on oath state that they personally know the above named application for pensioner and that they personally know that Hattie B. STATE OF TEXAS County of Hunt Before me, N. E. Peak, County Judge of Hunt County, State of Texas, on this day personally appeared J. M. McLeod & T. J. Graves, who personally known to me as to be credible citizens, who, being by me sworn, on oath state that they are personally acquainted with the foregoing applicant, and that the fact set forth and statements made in her application re correct and true; tot he best of their knowledge and belief, and that they have no interest in this claim. And further make oath tot he following facts touching the service of the applicant's husband in the Confederate army; (State fully your source of knowledge): T. J. Graves States as follows, to wit: I know that R. A. Ross was a Confederate Soldier. I fought with him in the battle at Mobile, Alabama and that R. A. Ross was taken prisoner the next day after which time I never saw him until after the close of the war. J. M. McLeod states as follows, to wit: I took an affidavit from R. A. Ross and Frank Northrup in which they, each, stated to me upon oath each others war record stating further that they were comrade-in-arms. The widow of the said Frank Northrup is now drawing a pension. I further know from what I have seen and heard of R. A. Ross by veterans who knew him well and also because of his own conversation with me concerning the battle Shiloh in which we both served. Please find inclosed herewith the affidavit referred to and is made part of this application. Mrs. Hattie B. Willingham, State and County Assessor in the County of Hunt, State of Teas, do certify that Mrs. Hattie B. Ross whose name is signed to the foregoing application for pension, under the act of Thirty-third Legislature, approved April 7, 1913, is charged on the tax rolls of said county with a homestead the value of $1400 Dollars, and of the other property, real or personal, or both, of the value of none Dollars. Ross, a Confederate Pensioner, and whose file number is 41740 and this is to certify that on August 12th, 1931, that J. Benton Morgan, called me to his office and had me to execute an application for Mortuary Warrant as to my Mother, Mrs. Hattie B. Ross. I executed same and took it personally to I. M. Stringer, who served as the undertaker at the burial of my mother, also I took the same certificate tot he Physician, Dr. Chas. C. Bowes, and that he executed the physician's affidavit, and that I then took the application for Mortuary Warrant and mailed it to the Comptroller of the State of Texas, at Austin, Texas, and deposited it in a United States Mail Box, located on the Northeast corner of the Public, Square at Greenville, Texas. s/ Ike Ross Sworn to and subscribed before me on this the 5th day of November A.
