He now holds an excellent position with a real estate firm in West Dallas. Miss Nell Puckett and Mrs. Dan Barnard were hostesses at a party and shower recently honoring Mrs. Jim Battle, the former Margaret Buchanan. Bridge was played and then little Mary Helen Puckett, dressed as a bride, carried a white satin ribbon to Mrs. Battle, which she followed to find a mound of gifts artistically decorated. Refreshments were served to Misses Edna Luna, Mildred Sparks, Hallie Battle, Bess Stevens, Lurline Brady, Mary Ruth Granberry, and Faye Harris and Mesdames Hesa Bickham, Dan Tatum, Aubrey Browne, and Reagan Buster. Mr. Curran Lewis and Alma McKee were married at Leonard last Sunday afternoon in the presence of a few intimate friends. After a short wedding trip to Sherman and Denison, the couple will reside in Celeste, where Mr. Lewis is employed by the local telephone company. Mr. C. E. Patterson, local onion buyer and shipper, reported that the plantings this year will be about ten per cent of last year's crop, due to wet weather and the poor price received last year. Coach Monkey Meeks has announced that an invitational basketball tournament will be held at the local gym next weekend, and the teams participating will be Merit, White Rock, Floyd, Pike, Dulaney, Lane, Hickory Creek, Merrick, Wagner, Peniel, Prairie Hill, Blue Ridge, Midway, and Crescent. The following grocery stores announced that they will close at 7:00 o'clock each evening except Saturday: Kerr Brothers, Denny Grocery and Market, E. D Bickham and Son, S. V. Baker Cash Grocery, and Jobe Cash Grocery. The Ladies Missionary Society of the local Methodist Church will serve Brunswick Stew next Saturday afternoon in order to raise funds for building the boys Sunday School room south of the Methodist Church. Pete Brewer and Roy Brewer and Leonard Lee were officers elected to head the new young men's Sunday School class at the Baptist Church. The fixture of the Celeste State Bank which failed here about two years ago were sold recently to Dalton Harris of Dallas, who will use them in his automobile business. The fixtures were sold to Mr. Harris by J. W. Pyle who bought them along with the assets of the bank at the time of the bank's affairs were taken over by the State Banking Commission. Mrs. J. W. Sparks of Prosperity community has a hen which twice a week lays an "ostrich" egg, measuring 6 1/2 inches by 8 inches. Superintendent Garland Roach states in an article this week that the Celeste Blue Devils were named for a famous regiment of soldiers in France in WWI, known as the Blue Devils.
