That's one way to describe 4 - H. Twenty-two million Americans are former 4 - H Club members. More than 2 1/3 million youngsters are enrolled now, but the real measure of 4 - H is the job it does for youth. ... Wonderful Year The theme of last year's Achievement Banquet describes 4 - H work in Hunt County--"That Wonderful Year--1963." During 1963 Hunt County produced more that its fair share of state and national winners. Sandra White and Monty Blakemore both won on the state level with their record books. They received an expense-free trip to Chicago. Monty also was one of the National 4 - H Congress of the eight recipients of a national award, a $500 college scholarship. Sandra has done her work in poultry and Monty in safety. ... A County Favorite Foods Show was held in Greenville with the Weiland 4 - H Club acting as host. There were fifty present. County winners were Sandra White, Georgia Steed of Kingston, Carol Barker, and Edna Lieb, who displayed their entries at the District Foods Show in Dallas. ... Achievement The 4 - H sub-committee and 4 - H Council sponsored the annual Achievement Banquet. Awards were presented to forty boys and girls and two clubs. There were 150 4 - H'ers, parents, and guests present. The guest speaker for the banquet was District Attorney Cameron McKinney, who praised the youngsters for their efforts at making democratic, self- government work through the 4 - H Club program. Gold Star winners were Monty Blakemore and Sandra White. Danforth winners Georgia Steed and Tommy Lamm, both of Kingston, were presented awards by Hunt County Judge Lee Bostick. ... Adults leaders are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jenkins, Commerce; E. G. Winton (sic), Fairlie; Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Baxter, County-at-Large; Mrs. Charles Farrell and E. G. Wilton, Fairlie (sic); Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lamm, Kingston; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Neeley, Paradise; and Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Doonan, Weiland.
