All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************** Accident Outbreak Here in Fog Kills One Person, Injures Several Chain Reaction Smashup Fatal One person was killed and a number injured in a rash of accidents on Greenville area highways Sunday and Monday. Dead on arrival at a Greenville hospital on Monday morning was Gabe Eddie Brister, 41, Leonard, who died in a "chain reaction" smashup involving four vehicles on fog-shrouded Highway 69 two miles north of Celeste Monday morning. Other victims of the series of smashups were: Richard Wade Morris, Leonard, who was pinned in the wreckage of the car he was driving for about an hour before a wrecker could pull the front of the car off him so he could be released. Mr. Morris, the son of Wade Morris, constable at Leonard , was taken to the M&S Hospital in Bonham after being treated here for a chest injury and cuts. Morris' father came upon his son's wrecked car in traveling to Greenville to work. Gary Sanders, 19, Sherman (identification on his person also gave a RR 5, Sulphur Springs address) who is in a Greenville hospital with a possible fractured skull and broken jaw. Minor Injuries: James Lewis Smith, Bonham, who received minor injuries, and was taken to a Bonham hospital. The "chain reaction" accident occurred when the Morris and another car, both traveling blind in the dense fog, collided almost head-on. A truck driven by Leo M. Coile, Wolfe City Highway, came on the scene and Mr. Coile was forced to take to the ditch, where the truck overturned, spilling its load. Mr. Coile was not injured. About the same time as the accident north of Celeste, G. W. Morris, 44, Gainesville, and W. F. Gee, 43, Nocona, Texas, suffered injures when a car they were riding went off a curve on FM 547 near Josephine... ...
