When I got to the end and read that Mrs. Boney was the mother of Mrs. Shipp, then I realized that there was a connection to the Sullivan family in Celeste. Mrs. Boney was kin to Bob Sullivan and Richard (?) Sullivan. Was she a sister? (SSS) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Celeste has a resident approaching one hundred years of age. Mr. William Shipp will be one hundred on December 4, 1961. He will be honored with a big family gathering at the home of his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Shipp, with whom he makes his home. Mr. Shipp, a cheerful little man, and quite able to do most things for himself, has had a life full of interesting experiences. He was born in Huey, Illinois on December 4, 1861, and moved to Texas in November of 1899. He and his wife, who passed away ten years ago, reared ten children, eight of whom are still living. They are all in this state and region and are expected to be present for the celebration, which is to be on Sunday, December 3, one day before the birthday. Mr. Shipp farmed most since he came to Texas, retiring when he was seventy- eight years old. Back in Illinois, he was a coal miner for thirty-three years. After moving to Texas, early in this century, he was connected with a lignite-mining venture at Como, Texas. The project lasted only a few years. While superintendent of a mine there, he fell in a seventy-eight foot shaft and recovered from the fall in a few weeks. Mr. Shipp is in good health according to the son. On a recent checkup, a physician said he had a good heart and excellent health conditions organically. He has deafness and cataracts that dim his sight, but not his zest for knowing what’s going on. It seems comical of the nice old fellow, when questioned; in order to make this report, he said he wanted his picture in the paper. Well, we’ll see Mr. Herman Scott and see what can be done. The Shipps are looking for the newest member of the family to be present on December 3rd. She is Wendy Shipp, three-month-old great-granddaughter from Royse City. One hundred year span—Mr. William Shipp, 1861—Wendy Shipp, 1961. Visiting the Shipps recently was Mrs. Shipp’s mother, Mrs. R. F. Boney, from Denison. She is planning to return for the gathering on the 3rd. (November 24, 1961, The Celeste Courier)
