The story goes that "after several weeks of unavoidable suspension, we resume publication of The Celeste Courier with this issue. As most of you know, suspension of publication was caused by the serious illness and death of the publisher since January 1, 1954, H. H. Hammond." The story was signed by Mrs. Opal Hammond, Publisher. In that issue Harbert Byers was heading the local Red Cross drive. The Merchant's Drawing was thirty dollars for this Saturday night. Mrs. J. F. Arnold's name was called the previous Saturday night, but she was not present to receive the jackpot. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hunt of Dallas are the proud parents of a fine young son, Ronald Lee Hunt, born last Saturday. Mrs. Hunt will be remembered as Betty Raper, daughter of Mrs. Bernice Raper. Admiral Dupre discussed situation in Europe at Celeste Lions at Monday meeting. A program of trade, not aid, should be adopted by the United States according to Rear Admiral M. M. Dupre, retired Naval Officer and brother of Charles Dupre, of Celeste, declared here Monday night in an address before the Celeste Lions Club. The Club president, M. M. Pruitt, presided. Admiral Dupre spent considerable time in Europe since the close of WWII, chiefly administering the Marshall Plan . He said, "Europe has to trade to exist." He added, "Help them to rebuild to resist Communism." Glen Compton was presented with the Lions Key Award by Lion Hubert Shields for securing two new members. Those present were James W. Glasscock, Albert Granberry, S. R. Granberry, Mrs. M. M. Dupre, Jr., M. M. Dupre, Jr., Charles A. Dupre, Mary Eastwood, M. M. Pruitt, Mack A. Pierson, Earl Allen, Herman Compton, Hubert Shields, Solon Milton, S. M. Compton, Leon Lipsey, Cecil Arey, Clyde Heflin, Harbert Byers, Merrick Money, A. G. Compton, George McGee, W. G. Bruce, J. R. Love, and J. B. Briscoe. Those attending the District 13 Baptist Convention in Sherman were Mack Pierson, Clyde Heflin, Rev. and Mrs. Earl Allen, Albert Granberry, Mrs. W. W. McMichael, Mickey Pierson, Peggy Rowell, Emma Rowell, and Jerry Warren. Mrs. George Hackney, Jr., PTA President, presided during the business session of the PTA meeting. Jesse Miller, County Superintendent, spoke on "Public Schools Week." Room count winners were second and ninth grades. The musical program was presented by ninth and tenth grades under the direction of Miss Mary Eastwood. Mr. and Mrs. Pete McGee have moved to their farm residence at Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lipsey were honored with a nice bridal shower at the Kingston Community Center. Mrs. Mildred Roach was co-hostess. Mr. Don Armstrong, Herschel Hunter, and Warren Green left Monday of this week for San Antonio where they will enter Brooks General Hospital of the US Army for medical training. Mr. and Mrs. Ike Johnson are moving to Farmersville this week, where Mr. Johnson is employed with the Santa Fe Railroad. Sarah Catherine Warren was hostess to GA meeting. Thirteen were present. Refreshments were served to Patsy Smith, Frances Taylor, Barbara Lipsey, Trenta Rae Jones, Sue Sumrow, Patricia Capehart, Betty Jean Hicks, Marilyn Grantham, Donna Glasscock, Beverly Glasscock, and the hostess Sarah Warren and Mrs. Earl Allen, Mrs. E. L. Cardwell, and Mrs. Lem Warren. Jerry Warren reported on the Hustler's Class. It was a First Baptist group and they had eight members present. Their teacher was Mack Pierson. Their next lesson on Sunday would have been "Lord of Life and Death." The RA's met with thirteen members and three leaders present. Five new members were noted, Archie Lowe, Hartwell Smith, Alvin Hunter, Harold Bishop, and Jimmy Stapleton. From other First Baptist reports, Nolan Jones was Sunday School Superintendent. J. W. Glasscock was music director. Emma Fay Rowell was pianist. Albert Granberry was Training Union director. The Baptist women observed a World Day of prayer. Mrs. E. L. Cardwell directed the program. Mrs. Phil Mockford was giving the week's program. Mrs. E. L. Ewing hosted the Lena Lair Circle. Mrs. Roy Stapleton was Sun Bean Band leader. J. A. Taylor observed his 93rd birthday. Mrs. J. W. white is visiting in the home of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Frazier in Grand Saline. Local advertisers were First National Bank, Celeste Insurance Agency, Evans & Son Grocery, E. D.
