H. Shannon in honor of her sisters. The home was decorated with fall colors. Those attending were Nellie Vanhoozer and Jewell Compton of Celeste; Gladys Comer, Nannie Robins, and Gwen Warren, all of Greenville; Lillian Newman, Denison; Mrs. Lula Bickham, Dallas; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Green, of Garland; two nieces, Betty Newman of Bonham and Mary Hunter of Garland; the hosts' son, Mr. and Mrs. J. Elwin Shannon; and a friend, Bertie Jones. Their parents were the late Jehue and Genia Shanks Green of this area. (October 7, 1977, The Celeste Courier) J. T. Green, 35, was head of household in Precinct 2, Hunt County, Texas at FM 117 -123 in 1900. He was born in November of 1864 in Alabama, as were his parents. Genia, 20, was born in January of 1880, in Texas. This time she said her father was born in Indiana; her mother, Missouri. They had been married for four years and they had three children, all living. Clide (Clyde), son was born in January of 1897, 3; Nellie was born in May of 1898, 2; and Jessie, January of 1900, 2/12--all born in Texas. In 1910, Jehue Green is listed as John Green. He and Genie have been married for fourteen years. She lists both parents born in Missouri. Their children are Clyde T., 13; Nellie E, 12; Jessie J., 10; Lillian M., 8; Gladys M., 8; Roy H., 3, and Lulie L., 1 7/12; and Adelyne, 4/12. This is April 21, 1910, in Precinct 2 of Hunt County, Texas. John King, 17, is a boarder. The family was located at FM 64 -74 in Precinct 5 of Hunt County in 1920. Jehue was listed as J. U. Green, 55, from Alabama as were his parents. Genia Green, 40, wife, was born in Texas. Her parents were born in Missouri. The children were Jewell, 19; Lillian, 18; Gladys, 14; Roy, 13; Lula, 11; Lorene, 9; Nannie, 7; J. T., 11/12 (son), all born in Texas. In 1930, at FM 22 - 23 "John T." Green is head of household. He is sixty- four and married at age thirty. Genia, 50, married at sixteen. She said that she and her parents were born in Texas. Their children in the home are Roy, 23; Lula, 21; Lorena, 14; Nannie, 17; John T., Jr., 11; and Gwendolyn 4 9/12. This is April 3, 1930, Precinct 5, Hunt County, Texas. I believe that Genia Shanks' parents are Henderson B. Shanks, 23, and Lucinda J. Shanks, 18. Lugenia Shanks was born in November of 1879. The census is June 1880, Precinct 2, Hunt County, Texas. Henderson was born in Texas, however. His father was born in Ohio and his mother in Alabama. Lucinda J. was born in Missouri. Peter Shanks, from Ohio, was in White Rock, Hunt County, Texas, in 1870. His wife, Patsy, was from Alabama. The children were John P., 23; Andy, 22; Henderson, 16; Mary 19; Dikey A., 14; Caroline, 11; Josephine, 4. Andy and John were born in Missouri--the rest of the children were born in Texas. Was Henderson B. Shanks called Dock Shanks? If so, he is at FM 22 - 74 in 1900 in Hunt County, Texas. He was born in May of 1854, was forty-six, and married for twenty-one years to Lucinda, thirty-nine, June of 1860, who has given birth to nine children, all living. Dock was born in Texas. He said both parents were born in Missouri. Lucinda was born in Missouri; her father, Tennessee; her mother, Missouri. Their children are Leoba, 17, 1882; Effie, February 1884, 16; Phines, July 1886, 13; Walter, February 1888, 12; Purney, September 1890, 9; Forest, February 1892, 8; Willie, July 1895, 4; and Hascal, February 1899, 1. All the children were born in Texas. Eight children are listed--and if Genia is the oldest daughter and already married--this would "fit." Purney Shanks is the grandmother of Carol Ross. Walter Shanks is the grandfather of Lucy Shanks (I think).
