Such a house is the old McGuire home, two miles west of Celeste. This rambling, roomy old home was built around 1860 (sic ?) by the late J. W. McGuire and wife. It is now the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McGuire and it is solid, comfortable, and very hospitable and homey. The J. W. McGuire couple came to Hunt County from Tennessee and settled about one mile north of the present location. There they built the start of this century old home. Some parts of the house are additions. The McGuire's eight children were reared in this farm home and were educated in the Celeste schools. Several of them were college trained and have and are serving in educational fields. The family's church affiliation was with the Lane Methodist Church. The J. W. McGuires were charter members of that well-known church. The family burial plot is in the nearby Lane Cemetery. Four of the eight children reared in this history-making pioneer home are living. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. McGuire, Clarence and Cindie, elected to continue to live there and care for their farm interests. They haven't chosen yet to move to town to a house that they have purchased. They have lived on their McGuire farm since their marriage in 1922 and in the home place house for thirty-three years. RELATIVES GATHER The old home place mentioned above was again the gathering place of McGuires on Thursday afternoon last week. It was all rather unplanned, but turned out to be quite a reunion. Mr. and Mrs. M. O. McGuire of East Saint Louis, Illinois, who hadn't been here in nineteen years were present. He is the late Fred McGurie's oldest son. Mr. Charlie McGuire, his son, Charles, Jr., and wife and daughter, Wanda, of Idabell, Oklahoma came. Mrs. Beulah McGuire and Miss Ina Mae McGuire of Dallas and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin McGuire of Richardson were present. Also, the twin granddaughters of the Marvin McGuires, Jean and Joan Cagey of Pampa enjoyed the family gathering. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Gibson, Mr. Jess McGuire, and Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Perkins from Celeste were there. Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Shields and Mac and Paula from Howe completed the party--excepting the Hubert McGuires from Greenville, who visit often, but were not available at this time. An impromptu picnic supper from the well-stocked pantry and deep freeze was prepared and served to these McGuire descendants, four generations away from the builder of the hospitable old home.
