These boys, always good friends in their school days, work and play together now as before, these two summer and one winter away at work. This particular morning the big pecan tree in the Hunter yard provided the shade for work on their cars. They washed, polished, changed tires, and general house-cleaned their autos, presenting them for the "races," we suppose. They are all seemingly doing fine, their first year away and on their own. Melvin Smith, Ralph Evans, and Jerry Swindell all work for Procter and Gamble. Dwain Lamm works for Murdock Lead Company. John Hunter works in the Western Auto Warehouse. Jack Warren drives a truck for R. W. McKinney Construction Company. Melvin, Dwain, and Jerry have an apartment, but "eat out" mostly they said. John lives with Dick and Marita Hunter. Jack gets to drive home most nights. In that same class group f boys, Buddy Hopewell and Archie Lowe are in the Navy. In this same class of 1959 were Anthony Mulkey and Mickey Pierson, who are in college. Anthony went last Sunday back to Murray College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, for his second year. Mickey checked in on Wednesday this week in Austin College, Sherman. They both have been conditioning for football all summer by hard outdoor work, and also individual conditioning sessions on the local football fields. Their college football work began this week. Donnie Duncan, a third year Austin College student and football man, also reported there for practice. School work doesn't start for a number of days. Others to School Miss Annie Katherine Norris will go soon for the continuance of her teaching in the Boude Storey School in Dallas, on September 6th. She teachers junior high work. "Annie K" will go all decked out in a new car, an Impala Hardtop Chevrolet, a beautiful all white with red interior. To Mesquite Mrs. Mildred Barnard will spend the latter part of this week in Mesquite in a general faculty meeting and teaching in-training, before school beings on September 6th. The fifth grade in the Tysinger School is Mrs. Barnard's work. This is her fourth year in this position. She will live in the home of Mrs. Tula Alder, who teaches also. Mrs. Alder is the mother of Bro. Gene Alder, a young Baptist minister here several years ago. Another Celeste lady will teach in Mesquite. She is Mrs. Ann Clark Bishop. She will teach fourth grade in the new Lamar School. Mrs. Bishop recently graduated from ETSC with a degree in homemaking and this summer she did six semester hours of graduate work in elementary education. The Bishops, Don Ray, Ann, and little son, have made their home here with Mrs. Myrtle Clark while Ann finished her college training and while Don commuted to work daily in Dallas. Their residence will be more convenient for their work now. They moved over the past weekend to South Garland, fairly near the school district. The little son "Dab" short for Dana Anson Bishop, was well pleased with the looks of the new home for there were horses on the (iron) fence and he was happy with his own room. He admitted that he will miss the daily play with his little cousins, children of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Clark. Another Teacher It is interesting to note that in this same new school, Lamar, in Mesquite, a first grade teacher will be Miss Shirley Hopewell. This young lady is a Celeste and East Texas graduate. She has taught first grade in Hereford for three years. She has taken work this summer toward a master's degree. The Blyths Move Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe Blyth and children have moved to Ore City, Texas, where Mr. Blyth will teach six grade and coach all athletics. Home From Bermuda Miss Jonnye Joe Hunter returned Monday from a two months visit in Bermuda with her uncle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Pierce. She gave us only a brief report of the trip. She has returned to begin teaching second grade in the Ascher Silver Stein School in Dallas on September 6th.
