All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************** Our Town This Week. . .August 12, 1960 The names and events in Mrs. Lois Lacy Lewis' article continues: Mrs. Pauline Craigo enjoyed the visit of her son and family, Bobby Craigo and wife, and three children, Paula Anne Craigo, Anthony Craigo, and Jana Kay Craigo from Abilene, Texas. Bobby is First Lieutenant Bobby L. Craigo with the US Air Force now based in Abilene. He graduated here in 1951 and ETSC in January of 1956. The Craigos vacationed a few days in the cool Ozark region, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Cassville, Missouri, were centers of interest for the family. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Logan and little daughter, Vicki Lynn Logan in Fort Worth. Clarence attended school here in his sophomore year, living with his Aunt Polly. He, after high school graduation in Oklahoma, finished with a business administration degree from ET in 1959. He is now in the accounting department of Shell Oil Company in Fort Worth. Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Granberry entertained relatives over the weekend. Mr. Clifford Granberry and son, Jimmy Granberry, were here Saturday. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell and daughters, Diane Lovell and Carla Lovell, were here. Also, Miss Mary Ruth Granberry visited home. On Monday, the Granberrys entertained Mr. and Mrs. Nobel Gholston of Carthage, Texas. The teenage Gholston daughters, Jeanie Gholston and Karen Gholston, were with their parents. The Joe McKees' visitors on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Joe David Bickham, a grandson, and their children, Joe Dan Bickham, Carol Bickham, and Lynda Ann Bickham, from Atlanta, Texas. On Sunday, the relatives were Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Steen of Bonham and Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn McKee and Sherry Lynn McKee of Dallas. Also Miss Mary Frances McKee came for the day. Mr. and Mrs. William Wren of Fort Worth were Sunday afternoon guests of Rev. and Mrs. Click. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Bodkins were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe Blythe and children. Ben Wayne Stewart is visiting his cousin, Gerald Hunter this week. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Shields and Mr. and Mrs. O. V. Barker, Whitewright, left Sunday for Corpus Christi to attend the state convention of agriculture teachers held in that city, August 15th through 19th. They were registered at the Driscoll Hotel, Corpus. Mrs. I. H. Duke spent last weekend with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Smith and daughter, Martha Smith. Martha is to be married on August 19, 1960. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Compton and Postmaster and Mrs. S. M. Compton are on a tour this week to Georgia and Tennessee. The Comptons will be visiting relatives and scenes of their father's old home. Mr. and Mrs. Bo Lipsey and his mother, Mrs. D. M. Lipsey, have returned from Tennessee and a return trip by way of New Orleans. While in Tennessee, the Lipsey were interested in locating the birthplace of the mother. But a railroad station and other familiar markers have changed with the times and the exact locations were not easily recognized. Mr. Joe Gaulden visited in town briefly Monday and told of his trip this week to Memphis, Tennessee to visit his brother, Charles Gaulden and family. Joe will be away from his Leonard business about a week, but not much of that time will be spent en route for he will fly by jet plane from Dallas to and from his destination. The Church of Christ ten-day revival ended Tuesday night this week. It was reported that good attendance and interest were noted throughout the services conducted by H. W. Pryor. On Sunday, visitors were in attendance from Kingston, Leonard, Bailey, and Greenville. The Baptist Revival which began on Wednesday night, the 10th, was preceded on Sunday afternoon with a choir practice. The music director for the meeting, Mr. John Rushing of Greenville, met with eighteen choir members for the rehearsal. At the Sunday services, a Mr. and Mrs. Taylor and two boys, new residents of Kingston, were welcomed visitors. Unusually good attendance at all services in the First Methodist Church was noted on Sunday. There were eighteen young people at the MYF services. The young people were served refreshments by Mmes. Furr, Gresham, Stapleton, and Norris. At the morning service, Mrs. Stewart brought her sister, Mrs. Georgia Backstrom, who is visiting here from Fayetteville, Arkansas. The H. F. Lewises are grandparents again after a long space of years. Mr. and Mrs. Warren A. Law (she was Betty Lewis) of Boston called Monday, August 8, that Elizabeth Ann Law, weighing 7 lbs. and 14 oz. had arrived. The new baby is the first to the Laws. The other grandchildren of the Pat Lewises' are teenaged girls, Lynn Lewis and Paula Lewis, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Lewis of Ontario, California. (August 12, 1960, The Celeste Courier)
