All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Service Men From This Area Return to Training Posts Servicemen, many visiting their families in the Celeste and Kingston homes for brief holiday furloughs and returning to their bases or newly assigned posts are: Pvt. Tommy Lamm, going to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, for medical corp training following basic at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Lance Corp. Joe Lamm, returning to Marine Camp, Lajuine, North Carolina, where he is battalion legal clerk. Gerald Hunter, in the Army Reserve, completes training in the medical corp in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, soon. Jerry Weatherley, the third son now in service of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Weatherley, returns to Fort Polk for continued infantry training. Jimmy Hackney, also, to Fort Polk for continued infantry training. Howard (Bud) Roach, who received basic at Fort Polk since the October induction, transfers to Fort Sam Houston where he trains for medical corpsman. Teddy Hunter from Fort Polk to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for artillery and missile school. Sp4 Alvin M. Hunter, trained at Fort Polk and Fort Bliss, is now with 4th MP GP (CI), Fort Sam Houston. Jimmy Sumrow, finishing basic at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Also Douglas Milton and Gary Gibson in training with the 12th Calvary at Fort Carson, Colorado. Jimmy Creed, completed basic training at Fort Polk, is sent to Fort Hood, Killeen, for medical corp training. Larry Martin in basic training at Fort Polk. W. S. Giles leaves January 10, 1967, for Fort Polk. Kenneth Spoonemore in Army training at Fort Eustace, Virginia. Ronnie Wright finished Air Force training at a North Carolina base. Richard Rust is in Air Force training in California. Ronnie Childress is slated for a pre-induction physical soon, as is Billy Raper. Monty Blakemore completed Air Force Reservist Training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, and is stationed now at Carswell Air Force, Fort Worth. Ray Love is in basic at Fort Polk. Mike Weatherley is in Germany with postal clerical work; Randy Weatherley is at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as an engineering instructor. Jimmy Patterson is a four-year Navy enlistee as is Oliver Craver. Bobby Cawthon is stationed in Germany. David and Dean Sampson, receiving basic training at Fort Polk, are together at a Seattle Army base. David is due for an oversea assignment and Dean takes special courses at the Seattle base. Three Griffis men from our family are stationed at Fort Hood, Killeen. They are Kenneth, a career man with several oversea assignments completed and brothers, Bobby Griffis and Sammy Griffis. An uncle 1/Sgt. Kenneth Griffis, an Army career man with over fifteen years service, is with the 2nd Bat. Inf. HHC. Other career servicemen include Charles Lewis, with thirteen years in the Air Force, whose recent work was in 12th Headquarters Supply Command in downtown Waco, is now in Viet Nam. Lt. Col. Andy Joe Byers in on Army assignment in the University of Pennsylvania. During his sixteen years since West Point graduation, he has gone overseas duty in the Korean War and later in Germany. Lt. Col. Rex Denny, a Marine Corp man with his family, is stationed in Hawaii. Denny recently completed a tour of duty in Viet Nam. Previous assignments in the Pacific Theater were accomplished. The above men, and there may have been some inadvertently overlooked, are all from he Celeste High School, excepting Love, who is from Greenville, but has business with the family firm in Celeste. (January 6, 1967) Among the men in service from Celeste community adding to previously published list should be added: Marine Captain Dick Saye is now in Viet Nam since mid-October, 1966. Saye, an eleven-year Marine career man, has served in France, Hawaii, and Quantico, Virginia. Lt. Col. Tom H. Owen, with twenty-four years in Army service is home with his family here from a year's duty in Saigon, Viet Nam. He is assigned to Fort Meade, Maryland. Pvt. Kenneth Seigler of Kingston is with the Army service in Viet Nam since June of 1966, Co B1Sp BN 838JF. Bobby Lanier, for nineteen years a Navy man, is on a photographic mission on an aircraft carrier in the Viet Nam area. Mike Henslee had an Army physical examination in Dallas on Monday, January 9, 1967. Airman Owen Bercher and family of Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, visited Lt. Col. Tom Owen and family, Sunday.
