Roach, a former Leonard resident, marked her 95th birthday recently while a patient a Madonna Hospital. The still pert little lady was born near Honey Grove and reared between Leonard and Blue Ridge in what is now the Pike community. She now resides at 712 West Crawford, Denison. Mrs. Roach fell on December 7, 1966, while on her daily walk downtown and sustained an injury that has kept her hospitalized. The injury marked the second time in her life that Mrs. Roach had required the services of a doctor and the first time in her life to go to a hospital. Mrs. Roach calls herself "a fresh air fiend" and attributes this determination to live in the sunshine for her longevity. She has almost perfect hearing, eyesight, and a superb memory. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGowan, she was married on December 26, 1897, to John Henry Roach at Pike. He died on September 9, 1930. A member of the Baptist Church she retains her membership in the Pike Baptist Church, which she joined when she was only fourteen years old. Her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Roach of Arp, are in Denison with Mrs. Roach. She has a niece, Mrs. Melba Addison, who lives in Leonard. (February 10, 1967, The Celeste Courier)
