She won the blue ribbon ($4.00) on caramels, the red ribbon ($3.00) for mints, and a white ribbon ($2.00) on date nut roll. (October 26, 1951) Mrs. George Hackney, who lives south of Celeste on RR 2, Greenville, proudly displays a first prize winning ribbon and a Philco Deluxe electric stove won in a Robin Hood Philco cake baking contest at the State Fair in Dallas on October 20, 1951. In the picture, left to right, R. S. Crawford, Greenville Philco dealer, Mrs. Hackney, and H. E. Hines of the International Milling Company. Mrs. George Hackney, Jr., has been announced as the winner of the first price in the cake baking contest in connection with the State Fair of Texas. She was present with an electric range, valued at $450.00, one of eight given during the Fair to Texas housewives. Cakes were judged on appearance, flavor, texture, and taste. Mrs. Hackney’s recipe was for her "Golden Chiffon Cake." Mrs. Hackney is well known here and is prominent in Home Demonstration Club work and in community affairs. She is a member of the Kingston Home Demonstration Club. (November 2, 1951)
