Johnston Camp UCV met in the Legion Hall at the courthouse Sunday, May 19, 1929, and the old Confederate Flag made by Mrs. Lucy Gee Harrison for the soldiers going out in 1861 was presented to the Camp, Walworth Harrison making the presentation speech. A picture of Mrs. Harrison was also presented. Rev. H. B. Pender presented a portrait of Jefferson Davis, the President of the Southern Confederacy, and an appropriate program of music and readings was carried out for this occasion. The flag was presented with the original flag staff, the flag having been framed by Mrs. C. S. Hutchins. Mrs. Louise Lumpkin sang selections that carried the memory of old soldiers back to 1861 and among the honored guests was P.T. McBride of Lone Oak, the only surviving member of the first company going out from Hunt County in 1861. Billie Burke Taylor gave a delightful reading and the old soldiers enjoyed a rich program and were given the glad hand of the younger generation who filled the hall for the splendid services of this occasion.
