Norris of Childress. The Leon Norris family will come here to live in about two years when he retires from the US Postal Service in Childress. A new home will be built, but the land will continue to be farmed by Clarence Slayden. The farmhouse there has been sold to Mr. John Cawthon. The Leon Norrises were reared in Kingston. She was the former Nora Meeks. Their daughter, Mrs. W. E. Treadway, Jr., and family live in Greenville. Jimmy and Jewel Norris have owned the farm for about twenty-nine years. It has always been a good cotton farm. It is remembered that it is one of the first in the area to be terraced, making use of the CCC labor in constructing the concrete spillways. The Clarence Slaydens are moving into their new home in town, possibly this week. The Cawthons, it is reported, will move out to their house on the Norris farm while their house here in town is torn down. Then when the lot is ready, the house and Cawthons will move into town and be all set up in a nice new home. (September 22, 1961) For Sale—Five-room house. East side of town.
