Railway in Dallas, spent Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rdelle Patterson. (January 4, 1952) Last Sunday afternoon about 12:30, two engines of a south bound Katy freight train were derailed in the north part of town. Reports from the scene are to the effect that brakes on the train failed to stop it until both engines had passed over the rails. A wrecker from Denison was called to the scene and after several hours of skillful work the diesel units were set back on the trackers. Road foreman, Mack Pierson, and his crew of workmen spent all of Sunday afternoon in repairing the cross ties and rails damaged by the mishap. No person was injured. Gilford Stricklin of Denison spent Sunday afternoon in Celeste to assist in getting the derailed train engines back on the track. (Gilford was a former Celeste resident and worked for the railroad in Celeste). (March 28, 1952, The Celeste Courier)
