The fire had a "head start" when the siren sounded, and the hard east wind blew particles of the burning wood for more than a block. Fearing that other buildings would be set from the high wind, the Leonard Fire Department was called to assist. Soon after their arrival, the Bill Taylor home had a blaze started in the roof and attic, but the Leonard boys were able to quickly extinguish it. Those on the scene at the fire reported that had it not been for the assistance of the Leonard Department both buildings would have been lost. The Remediz* home was partly covered by insurance, but all household goods were a total loss. (December 21, 1951, The Celeste Courier) *"Remediz" is also spelled "Ramirez."
