M. Pittman, and Rev. Polk Moffett, of Greenville, for the Hunt County ‘Texas Friendship for Korea" project, announced Monday that Teddy Joe Saye, RR 3, Celeste, has been chosen to be one of the sixteen "cowboys" from Texas counties who will accompany the freighter delivering the livestock and farming materials, sent from over 120 participating counties, for emergency aid to South Korean youth in 4-H Clubs and orphanages in Korea. The Celeste youth was selected on the basis of his record as a member of 4-H Club, his skill and experience with livestock and general fitness for the opportunities of the Korean trip. The co-chairmen have announced that at least fifteen head of cattle, milk or dairy, must be collected in order to complete the requirements for Teddy Joe’s Korean voyage with the "Friendship for Korea" donations. Various individuals in the county have already donated seven head of cattle. The necessary passports for the Hunt County "cowboy" are already being processed, for the co-chairmen feel confident that by June 1st, the necessary fifteen head of cattle will be on hand. Any individual or group desiring to make a donation is urged to contact either County Agent Steve Wheeless, in the county courthouse, or Mr. I. M. Pittman, 2816 Washington Street, phone 2121, or Rev. Polk Moffett, all in Greenville. Many items are being sought in this drive to help rehabilitate South Korean youth. Citizens who are not able to give livestock are asked to consider donating any of the following: garden rakes, hoes, shovels, files, flower and garden seeds, bulbs, forage seeds in bushel quantities; pedal sewing machines; bales of cotton; other livestock such as hogs, sheep, and goats. The purpose of this "Friendship for Korea" effort is to provide the war-ravaged youth of Korea the needed tools to help become self-supporting people. Recipients of this aid will have to return to the "Friendship for Korea" distribution agency a like amount of what they receive. This will, in turn, be used to aid others in distress. It is a project that helps war victims help themselves. (May 27, 1955)
