Swindell, who has been active in Democratic Party circles, had been requested by a large number of Hunt County voters to seek the Democratic nomination to this high county office. Mr. Swindell lives in Commerce, Texas, and is a motel owner and operator with farming interests. He was born in Greenville, the grandson of Dr. J. W. Swindell and Judge T. Wade Thompson. He served Hunt County as State Representative in the 51st Legislature, 52nd Legislature, and the 51st Special Session of the Legislature. He then became state campaign manager for John C. White for Commissioner of Agriculture. Bill attended East Texas State at Commerce and Texas University at Austin having his degree in Business Administration. Following this degree, he attended University of Texas School of Law. Being a veteran of WWII, he is a member of the American Legion and the AEF. Bill is married and has two sons. While in the Texas Legislature, Mr. Swindell sponsored legislation aimed at improving child care institutions and homes for the aged, tighter liquor laws, and supported public school and teacher legislation, including the Gilmer-Aiken School Laws under which we now operate our public schools. Mr. Swindell was one of the co-sponsors who introduced and had passed the Sabine River Authority, which divorced the Sabine River from the Neches River Authority, without which it would have been very nearly impossible to now be building the Iron Bridge Reservoir. Mr. Swindell is a strong believer of all county business, whether in the County Court or in County Commissioner meetings, being open to the press and the public at all times. He plans to make a strenuous campaign in which he will make every attempt to see and talk to every voter possible in Hunt County. He will make his formal announcement at a later date although he has already officially filed for the judge's post. (January 24, 1958, The Celeste Courier, Celeste Texas)
