All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************************* "They Say. . ." ---That Celeste beat Bailey. ---That it was all a mistake about Spring being here last week. ---That rural route carrier Brown has enlarged his route so as to go by Leesburg. ---That Celeste has a good restaurant, Arie's Cafe, and that it is a mighty good place to eat. ---That Uncle Doss Bickham moved around livelier than any twenty-year old when the basketball girls would come in his store. ---That the joke is on that fellow that wanted to, but could not. ---That Josh Traywick would not go on the wolf chase when he found out that the basketball players could not go. ---That Celeste cars do not stop in Bailey now, but beat it on through at a rapid rate. ---That the Baptists are well pleased with their new pastor. ---That Celeste has a Constable and a Justice of the Peace, but nothing for them to do--just hold the office. ---That you can't get Robby Lane to talk about anything but V-8 Fords. ---That a certain fellow whistles and sings all the time he works and that he works also while he whistles and sings. Passons. ---That John Garner is gaining ground and will be the next President of the United States. ---That spring cleaning time is here and better get busy and clean up the yards and plant the garden. ---That Barber Nix was seen honing and strapping his razors last Monday morning very early, getting ready to shave a tough customer. ---That Raymond Conine was seen standing around watching the big crowds here Saturday and said that life is just what you make it and no more. ---That Pastor Herbert Minga was around town this week, rounding up his delinquent members and inviting them out to preaching next Sunday. ---That Tom Sparks was seen rearing back on his dignity in his store with a big long "segar" in his mouth and talking about the good old times away back in '79! (1879?) ---That banker Granberry can out-yell any school boy at girls basketball games when he see Celeste on the win. ---That you never hear Melvin McClatchy saying anything about business depression, but you always find him at his place of business and ready for business. ---That George Childress is making himself conspicuous by not coming to town these days like he used to and we fear he is taking too much time catching Hoover rabbits for his meat these days. In some states, an enormous tax is being collected on gasoline for purposes other than building and maintenance of roads. In several states one-half or more of the gasoline taxes collected goes into the general fund of the state to be used for whatever purpose the legislature may see fit. In Texas, one-fourth goes into the common school fund, and in another state, a fish hatchery was built with funds derived from gasoline taxes.
