Watkins advised The Courier this week that he plans to open offices here for the general practice of medicine about the first of January. It is expected that work will be begun next week, converting the Mrs. S. L. Green building, formerly occupied by the Tom West Grocery, into modern street- level offices ready for Dr. Watkins to begin seeing patients about January 1, 1952. Dr. Watkins comes to Celeste highly recommended by those who know him, as being a thoroughly qualified osteopathic physician and surgeon. He has been practicing in Celina, Texas, for the past several months with a Dr. Graham, who has a clinic and hospital there. Dr. Watkins was born and reared in Grant, Perkins County, Nebraska. His mother, Mrs. Emery Watkins, makes her home there. Grant is a small town, located in the western part of the state. As Dr. Watkins grew to manhood there, he is thoroughly familiar with small town problems. Dr. Watkins’ pre-professional training consisted of two years at the State Teachers College at Kearney, Nebraska, which was interrupted by four years service in the Army Air Force, with overseas duty in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the armed forces, he returned to Kearney for another year’s pre-professional training. Dr. Watkins was then accepted for the four years of medical professional training at the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery at Kirksville, Missouri. Mrs. Watkins is also a native of Nebraska and was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the State Teachers College at Kearney, Nebraska. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Newman who reside in Palisade, Nebraska. The Watkins have three children, two girls and a boy. Jo Merrily Watkins is eight years old; Mark Douglas is six; and Susan Lynn is nineteen months.
