H. Armstrong Died at Celeste Home After Long Illness A. H. Armstrong, a resident of Celeste for sixty-eight years, died at his home Sunday, August 6, 1961. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church in Celeste at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 8, 1961. The Rev. A. W. Cunningham of Decatur, Rev. Earl Allen of Lufkin, and Rev. H. B. Gideon of Celeste officiated at the funeral services. Burials was in Forest Park Cemetery, Greenville, with Masonic graveside services. Mr. Armstrong was born in 1875 in Amory, Mississippi. He came to Celeste when he was eighteen and as a young carpenter helped to build several of the town's first buildings. Later he was a prominent farmer until his retirement at the age of seventy-two. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of the Miller Lodge No. 224 for over fifty years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Celeste. In 1900, he was married to Lura Elizabeth Smith. All children born to this union survive: L. O. Armstrong of Lubbock, Leon Armstrong of Dallas, Harold Armstrong of Celeste; two daughters; Mrs. Tila Mae Denney of Waco and Mrs. Anita Brewer of Lamesa; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive, including J. A. Pearce of Celeste. Pallbearers were Byird Glasscoe, Lem Warren, Jacque Bickham, George McGee, Calvin Stapleton, E. H. Blankenship, Clarence Milton, all of Celeste, and H. F. Brewer of Greenville.
