Abernathy, 89, died at 12:00 Noon Sunday, February 12, 1967, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Pearce, 517 W. Miller Road, Garland, where she had made her home for the past ten years. Mrs. Abernathy had been in failing health for several years. Born on September 22, 1877, in Tennessee, she was the daughter of John W. Reavis and Virginia Hamlin Reavis. She was married to John I. Abernathy on August 22, 1892. He receded her in death on September 28, 1944. Mrs. Abernathy resided in the Kingston community in Hunt County for many years and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was survived by one son, Milton Abernathy, Dallas; six daughters, Mrs. May Morris, Torrance, California; Mrs. Pearl Wade, Dallas; Mrs. Cora Kirkpatrick, Ventura, California; Mrs. Dera Pearce, Garland; Mrs. Maggie Puryear, Greenville; Mrs. Jewell Pearce, Dallas; two brothers, Wesley Reavis, Euless; Newton Reavis, Mesquite; one sister, Mrs. Carl Coats, Greenville; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Funeral services were 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Johnson Street Church of Christ in Greenville. Ministers officiating were Foster Ramsey and Tolbert Vaughn. Burial was in the McWright Cemetery.
