Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 1, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Celeste with Dr. James Ralson officiating. Burial will be in Celeste Cemetery. The son of Alger Horatio and Lura Elizabeth Smith Armstrong, he was born October 6, 1909, in Celeste. He and Bertha Madolyn Turner were married in 1933 in Durant, Oklahoma. Mr. Armstrong retired as Hunt County Tax Assessor Collector on Dec. 31, 1978. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Celeste. He was Celeste's oldest citizen and a 1926 CHS graduate. Surviving are his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug Armstrong and Frances McMichael Armstrong and Don Armstrong and Katie Armstrong, all of Celeste; daughters and sons-in-law Kay Armstrong Nichols and O.L. Nichols of Celeste and Janie Armstrong King and Van King of Greenville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, October 31, 2002, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home of Greenville. (October 31, 2002, The Greenville Herald Banner)
