Burns, 73, of Greenville, passed away on June 19, 2004, at Medical Center in Terrell, Texas. He was born on June 2, 1932 to Alice Fulkerson Burns and Andrew Burns and was a Celeste student. He was retired from the Greenville Fire Department after serving for thirty years. He was a member of the Saint Williams Catholic Church in Greenville, VFW, Retired Fireman Association of Greenville, and ARC. He also worked with Hunt County Family Services for eight years. Survivors include wife Betty Perkins Burns of Greenville formerly of Celeste; sons Thomas Burns of Greenville; James Burns of Cash; Finis Burns II of Greenville, John Akers of Greenville, James Akers of Allen, Joseph Akers of Quinlan, Jason Akers of Caddo Mills, Jerald Akers of Greenville and Jacob Akers of Austin; daughters, Bonita Henson of Kaufman, Alicia McCasland of Greenville, Jeannine Cherry of Wolfe City, and Jeannita Seller of Greenville; sisters Harriet Chaney of Greenville; and sixteen grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in death, Leon Burns, Joseph Burns, and Benjamin Burns and three sisters, Iva Fowler, Ida Roach, and an infant sister. Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 21, 2004, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
