All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Betty Rachel McBroom Compton Betty Rachel McBroom Compton, born November 12, 1940, went peacefully to be with her Savior and loved ones on Sunday, January 25, 2009, after a long struggle with health challenges. She was born to Bill McBroom and Mary McBroom in Leonard, TX. As an only child, she grew up in the country on the family farm. She attended Leonard schools where she was an excellent student. She gave her life to Christ as a young girl and was very active at First Baptist Church of Leonard. She especially loved to sing and was active in the choir there. After graduating, she attended East Texas State University where she obtained her business degree. The love of her life was her husband, Mike Compton of Celeste, Texas. They met while in high school and were married on September 5, 1959, while they were both in college. They spent most of their married life living in Plano with their children. One of Betty's greatest joys was teaching at Plano Senior High School. Besides teaching, her greatest pleasures were supporting her children in their activities and football. She was a dear, sweet woman who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Compton, and her parents, Bill and Mary McBroom. She is survived by her son, Doug Compton of Plano; her son, Mark Compton of Dallas; her daughter and son-in-law Jan Smith and Holland Smith of Plano; and her grandchildren Brandon Smith and Meagan Smith. She is also survived by many cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Friday, January 30, 2009 at 10:30 AM, Prairie Creek Baptist Church, 15th Street in Plano. Burial will be at Leonard Cemetery, Leonard, Texas at 2:30 PM, Friday, following the Plano services. (January 28, 2009, The Dallas Morning News)
