He had been ill for the past several years. Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM, Thursday, October 2, 1958, at the White Rock Baptist Church. The Rev. W. B. Millner, Dallas, and the Rev. Fred Moore, Greenville, officiated. Burial was in Webb Hill Cemetery and nephews were pallbearers. Gray Sorrells and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Born May 28, 1891, at Tidwell, Mr. Atherton was the son of Richard A. Atherton and Ann Morgan Atherton. He had spent most of his life in the community of his birth and was a retired farmer. Mr. Atherton was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church, and in 1910 was married to Gradie O'Pry in White Rock. Surviving are three sons, Guy Atherton, White Rock community, Charles Atherton, Phoenix, Arizona, and James Atherton, Dallas; seven grandchildren, including Val Jean Atherton, Carolyn Atherton, and Linda Atherton of White Rock, and other relatives. ********************************************************* USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: Copyright.
