Obituary of Henry M. Horton
The Celeste Courier, 22 December 1961, Hunt County, Texas

CELESTE

Henry M. Horton Rites Saturday at Baptist Church Here

    Henry M. Horton, a resident of Celeste since 1924, died at 8:20 AM,
Friday, December 15, 1961, in the Veterans Hospital in McKinney after an
illness of several years.

    Funeral services were at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Celeste Baptist Church.
The pastor, Rev. H. B. Gideon, and Rev. Albert Click, Celeste Methodist
pastor, officiated.  Burial was in Klondike, Texas cemetery.  Pallbearers
were Calvin Stapleton, Mack Pierson, D. C. Thurman, Ralph Evans, Herman
Compton, and Cecil LaFavers.

    A retired farmer, Mr. Horton was born February 22, 1885 in Batesville,
Arkansas, son of Frank M. Horton and Mary K. Shumacher Horton.  He was reared
in Delta County, Texas.  He married Miss Bernice Chumly in 1922 and she died
the same year.  He was a member of the Celeste Baptist Church.

    Survivors are two brothers, W. E. Horton of California and R. L. Horton
of Sherman; four sisters, Mrs. George Davis of Dallas, Mrs. J. E. Henry of
Amarillo, Mrs. Jessie Payne of California, and Miss Ethel Horton of Celeste,
and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.  (December 22, 1961, The
