W., Jim) Hughes were held Wednesday, June 1, 1960, at 3:00 PM in the First Methodist Church in Leonard with the pastor, Rev. Bill Kent, officiating. Burial was made in Mount Carmel Cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were F. A. Boutwell, Ernest Leinart, Noel Owens, Frank Owens, Frank Crawford, Hershel Havens, and Guy Christian. Mr. Hughes passed away at six o'clock Tuesday morning, May 31, 1960, at Risser Hospital in Bonham. He suffered a stroke at his home about four o'clock Sunday morning and was carried to the hospital where his condition remained critical. Mr. Hughes was born May 22, 1893 in the Hickory Creek community. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Hughes. He married Miss Willie Irene Broach on May 7, 1914. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Leonard. He was a retired farmer. Survivors are his wife of the home in Leonard; two daughters, Mr. Frank Glasscock and Mrs. W. H. Owens of Fort Worth; three sons, Glenn H. Hughes of Dallas, Billy R. Hughes of Irving, and Jack K. Hughes of Hillsboro; and nine grandchildren. (June 3, 1960, The Celeste Courier)
