All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** John Hunter Last rites were observed at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Lane Methodist Church for John Hunter, retired farmer, who died early Friday at his home near Celeste. The Rev. Robert Ridley of Dallas, officiated, assisted by the Church’s pastor, the Rev. G. W. Gear. Burial was in the lane Cemetery under the direction of James-Coker-Peters Funeral Home of Greenville. Pallbearers were grandsons. John Hunter, a native of Cookeville, Tennessee, was born on November 22, 1868. The son of Joseph Hunter and Mary Hunter, he came to Texas in 1889. He was married to Deliah McIntyre on December 21, 1896. Active in the Lane Methodist Church, of which he had been a member for many years, Mr. Hunter had served on the board of stewards. Survivors include his wife; eight children; Edd Hunter of Lubbock; Mrs. Amy Sprinkle of Trenton; Mrs. Beulah Perkins of Dallas; Mrs. Pauline Lee of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Cindie McGuire, Dee Hunter, Ira Hunter, and Claude Hunter of Celeste; two stepchildren, Mrs. Hattie Appleby of Hale Center and Charlie McIntyre of Oklahoma City; a brother, G. W. Hunter and a sister, Mrs. Amy Qirby. Two sisters preceded him in death. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Ellis Turner, Mrs. Ross Jackson, Mrs. Bert Rogers, Mrs. Fletcher Bland, Mr. and Mrs. J. R.
