J. A. Mansfield, aged 83, one of the pioneer Baptist ministers or Northeast texas and pastor of the First Baptist chirch of this city nearly half a century ago, died at his home in Mineral Heights at 7:45 o'clock this morning following a brief illness of only a few days. He was stricken ill a week ago, but did not become seriously ill until yesterday. Funeral services will be held at the Old Concord Baptist church at Jacobia at eleven o'clock thursday morning. Services will be conducted by Mooney, Jesse and Daniels. The remains will leave the mansfield home at 10:15 for the Old Concord church. Burial will follow ther. Active pall bearers will be G. W. Rutherford, Del Denny, C. V. Morris, R. A. Walker, W. C. Tremble, J. W. Foster. Honorary paulbearers will be friends and acquaintances. rev. Mansfield was bron in Logansport, KY., in 1845 and came to texas in 1876, the majority of which time he has resided in and near this city. He has made his home here since 1901. He is survived by seven children, four sons: H.A> Broadus and Victor of this city, and W. J. of Dallas, and three daughters, Mrs. H. G Garrett, Mineral Heights; Mrs. G. W. Key, Leonard, and Mrs. A. P. Miller of Plainview. Rev. Mansfield was easily onw of the outstanding Baptist ministers of North Texas and held a large acqiuaintence througout the state. He had devouted his life to the services of his Master and was ever ready to aid those less fortunate.
